Autism Double-Checked wants to make flying more relaxing for you and your autistic loved one this summer. Join them for their free event and practice checking-in at the airport and boarding a plane! Registered participants come to the airport on that day, park, enter the terminal and collect their boarding passes at the ticket counter. Everybody proceeds through the security screening process by TSA and goes to the gate area to await boarding. When called, participants board the aircraft, find their seat and fasten seat belts. After that, sit back and listen to the onboard announcements, enjoy the snack service and then … deplane. Registration requested.

Participants will learn about self-determination skills and its relation to students determining an individualized pathway to graduation from multiple options. Credit and diploma requirements, the appeal eligibility criteria for all students, and safety-net options for students with disabilities will be reviewed. Learn how earning a Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential is beneficial in a number of ways and understand the guidelines for the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential which is awarded to students participating in the New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) testing program. I Used to Be Bullied for Having Autism: Here is When it Stopped

Dr. Kerry Magro will offer a first-hand account of a young man who was bullied as he was growing up on the autism spectrum. He will share the difficulties of having autism and not being able to express and defend himself. Some causes and effects of bullying on our community and in our schools will be discussed, as well as which behaviors are considered bullying (including cyberbullying). A plan will detail seven stops involved in taking a stand against bullying will be shared that should help self-advocates, families and professionals.
