In this workshop, parents and professionals will explore the importance of beginning career development at the elementary age for students with disabilities. Participants will discover activities that support self and career awareness, identity, and career exploration. This session will also enhance understanding of collaboration among schools, families, and community connections in elementary career development. Resources and strategies to ensure elementary experiences that are impactful and encouraged for students with disabilities throughout elementary school will also be reviewed. Registration requested.

Guardianship can be a valuable tool to protect individuals who don’t or no longer possess the ability to make appropriate personal or financial decisions for themselves. The guest speaker will be Sara Rosenberg. Sara is totally blind from birth and lives in Lakewood with her husband. She is a retired Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and a former special education teacher. She received her special education degree from Touro College in 2001 and taught students with learning disabilities for thirteen years in a resource room setting. In 2006, she pursued her TVI degree at Dominican College and taught students who are blind and or visually impaired with and without additional disabilities for six years. She will share her experience and emphasize the importance of attaining independence skills such as Orientation and Mobility, technology, and self-advocacy to achieve success.
