Guest speaker Tricia Waechter is the founder and CEO of Blind Girl Designs, an apparel company focused on the blind community. Tricia started the company in 2020 after her retinitis pigmentosa had diminished her eyesight to such an extent that she could no longer work in the corporate fashion community. She travels around the country to sell her products at conventions and other venues. Tricia is also involved in advocacy for the blind and promoting awareness about blind people to the general community. She will share her experiences and insights with us. Registration requested.

This online presentation will discuss typical development of fine motor and visual motor skills, strategies to address specific skill deficits, and ideas to enrich the classroom environment to benefit all children. Participants will learn how to apply strategies used by occupational therapists with all students across a variety of academic and non-academic areas (e.g., writing, art, reading, story time, math). Age-appropriate developmental milestones and expectations will be reviewed, with a focus on proactive strategies to facilitate motor development. Simple modifications to materials and presentation to address specific concerns will also be described. CEUs available. Registration requested.
