Though we sincerely hope you never need this, it is worthwhile keeping this reference information should the need ever arise.

FEMA—800-621-3362 (Tel), 800-462-7585 (TTY), 800-621-3362 (VRS) www.disasterassistance.gov This is the government agency responsible for assisting people in Federally declared disaster areas. Services can include benefits such as grants for temporary housing, home repair, low cost loans, and other services. IT DOES NOT REPLACE YOUR INSURANCE POLICY, but may help cover some needs.

FEMA DISABILITY SPECIALIST—Jim Flemming is the Regional Disability integration specialist for FEEMA. FOOD STAMPS—Food stamp recipients in affected areas are usually eligible to receive extra food stamps to offset their food loses. Contact your local Social Services Department for more information.

INSURANCE ASSISTANCE—United Policy Holders is an organization that assists people having issues with their insurance companies. www.uphelp.org/programs/roadmaptorecovery.  There are also lawyers who specialize in insurance cases, as well as in Fema related cases.

YOUR LOCAL RABBI is a good source of assistance, being the contact person for most outside aid being set up for any local area. Organizations and volunteers would be coordinating their assistance through him.

RELIGIOUS BASED ORGANIZATIONS such as Agudath Israel, OU, Met Council, Federation, Jewish Family Service etc, set up funds to help in time of need. Assistance is distributed both privately and through the local congregational Rabbis.

CHABAD—Chabad Shlichim in all areas have been known for organizing and providing needed assistance. For the nearest CHABAD shaliach, check www.chabad.org
