For those clients for whom riding on a horse is not possible, equine therapy is accomplished by caring for the horses through feeding and grooming. Gallop NYC is a therapeutic horseback riding program for people with developmental disabilities at locations in Howard Beach, Prospect Park, Forest Hills and the Bronx. Their programs help to enhance the participant’s emotional, social and physical skills through riding and learning how to take care of a horse. All riders are supervised by Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) certified instructors, as well as trained volunteers. Through weekly riding sessions with PATH-certified instructors, we help riders learn new skills, inspiring each one to live life as fully, productively and independently as possible.

Working in conjunction with the Monmouth County Park System, Special People United to Ride (SPUR), provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to achieve personal goals through therapeutic horsemanship. Instructors and students work together in SPUR lessons to attain desired physical, cognitive, and/or emotional goals via a variety of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT). Children and adults with disabilities begin with a leader and sidewalker in addition to the instructor. Each SPUR lesson is tailored to the individual’s own physical and emotional needs. All sessions are 8 weeks long.

Riding High Farm is dedicated to providing therapeutic recreational horseback riding adapted to meet the needs of individuals with varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.
Programs include:
- Day Skills, a skill-based program for adults with special needs, enables participants to learn in a 1:2 staff to participant ratio. They will learn about the day-to-day care of the animals as well as the facilities.
- Equine Assisted Learning, a program to enhance the lives of physically, cognitively and emotionally challenged participants by building healthy emotional bonds between riders and the uniquely trained horses that work with them.
- Wounded Warriors, a program which provides Equine-Assisted Activities (EAA) and services to active, retired and families of active duty soldiers who can greatly benefit from the various programs RHF has to offer

They patiently work with and children and adults who have autism, brain injuries, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, behavioral issues, down-syndrome, and developmental delays. They also work with at-risk youth, victims of violence, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and students with many other mental health challenges such as ADD, ADHD, or Bipolar Disorder.
While riding, each student's individual needs are being addressed through horse therapy such as speech, sensory, balance, behavior, cognitive processing and more. In addition to mounting and riding a horse, students will engage in activities such as grooming, feeding, and leading a horse. They also have the opportunity to interact with farm animals, learn about bees at the Bee Farm, walk through the vegetable garden, and see chicken coops. Scholarships available.
