Overnight Respite Programs for Children with Special Needs in the NYC Area

If your child has special needs, an overnight respite program can provide some much needed relief and give you time to de-stress and focus on your own needs. It's also a good idea to get your child used to staying overnight in a place other than home, in case an emergency should ever arise.
Here, we've put together a list of places that offer overnight respite for children in the NYC area, including Long Island and Westchester, Rockland, and Fairfield counties.
New York City Respite Programs Serving Multiple Boroughs
AHRC of New York City Free-Standing Respite
Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Queens

Houses and apartments are located in all five New York City boroughs, offering overnight respite for individuals with developmental disabilities ages 4 years and older, of any functional level. Services provided by fully trained staff can be arranged for up to two consecutive weeks.
HeartShare Overnight Respite Programs
Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens

HeartShare offers a few overnight respite programs. Serving People with Autism Overnight Respite is located in Staten Island. It is open year-round to children with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities ages 7 and older. Home Away from Home is an overnight respite program provided by host families for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. A Holiday Overnight Respite program is offered in Brooklyn.

Quality Services for the Autism Community’s overnight respite programs typically take place at a recreational facility such as a dude ranch, but services can be arranged in another location convenient to the family. The program is available to all individuals with autism or a pervasive developmental disorder.
Bronx
UCP of NYC Overnight Respite Program

Overnight respite is available seven days a week at the Hausman Campus in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood of the Bronx for any child or adult who is a New York City resident, is physically disabled and/or developmentally disabled, and meets the New York State Office of Persons With Developmental Disabilities and Family Support Services guidelines. Guests may stay at the residence for up to 14 days at a time, a maximum of 30 days per year.

The YAI Network offers 24-hour professional and caring supervision from Friday afternoon until Monday morning for people ages 5 years and older in a lovely Chelsea townhouse. Guests must be ambulatory.
