Stimulus Checks For People On SSI
An agreement has been reached with the IRS for adults who receive SSI (if they are not claimed as a dependent by someone else) to automatically receive the COVID-19 Stimulus money the same way that they receive their monthly SSI benefit, whether by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card or by paper check. However, if they have children under the age of 17 and wish to claim the $500 per dependent child payment, they will need to use the IRS non-filers tool located at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here. The cash payments will not be considered income for SSI recipients and the money will be excluded from resources for 12 months.
