Product Recall---General Mills is recalling more than 10 million pounds of flour over concerns that it may be linked to an outbreak of E. Coli. Several varieties of their Gold Medal, Wondra and Signature Kitchens flour brands are affected. Cases of illnesses linked to the flour have been reported in 20 states nationwide. About half of the sick people reported making something with the flour before becoming ill. General Mills advises consumers to not use the flour.
Survey for The Deaf or Hearing Impaired--Disability Rights New York (DRNY) is seeking participants who are deaf or hearing impaired for a number of surveys. They are looking for sign language users who use interpreters for health care, those who use New York City trains and/or those with speech disabilities who use 911. Scholarship For Blind Students--The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is offering scholarships of $500 each for students who are legally blind USABA members. Applicants must be enrolled in a two- or four-year college or technical school. Submission deadline is July 31. For information call 719 866-3019.
Media Scholarships for Disabled Students---The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is offering eight NBC Universal Tony Coelho Media Scholarships to students with disabilities who are pursuing communications or media-related degrees. BRCA Testing & Study---Montefiore’s genetics team & the Program for jewish Genetic health are offering subsidized BRCA testing in NYC as part of a study. Participants must be 25 years or older, have at least one Ashkenazi Jewish grandparent, and have not had BRCA testing done previously. Eligibility also depends on personal & family cancer history.
