NYC Housing Authority Tenants---A bill has been passed that would allow tenants with physically disabling conditions that affect their mobility a preference in occupying a vacant dwelling unit on a lower floor in the same project operated by the New York City Housing Authority
SSI Increase---The Social Security Administration announced that Social Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments will increase by 1.7 percent beginning December 31, 2014. The increase in payment is a result of the automatic cost of living adjustment, or COLA. Payments for Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries will also increase in 2015.
Special Needs Toy Catalog---Toys R Us recently released the Toys R Us Toy Guide for Differently-Abled Kids®, an easy-to-use toy selection resource for gifts for children with disabilities. The free guide is available in Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores, as well as online in English and Spanish.

Gouchers Program---The Israeli Gouchers Association is sponsoring “Expression of Hope 3”, a new program for raising awareness through art performed by the community of people with Lysosomal Storage Disease. Some of the art will be exhibited in an international exhibition and on various materials to promote awareness of LSD. For more information, see www.goucher.org. EQ Course for Parents---Ahava is sponsoring a 15-session course for parents based on the principals of EQ. This course focuses on coping with raising a child with special needs in the family unit. Topics include:
- The birth of the "special" child – emotional, cognitive and behavioral significance in family life
- The special child and his place in the family circle
- Denial, mourning, pain and various crises in family life
- I as a parent of a child with special needs; I as a person
- Receiving the special child – mothers, fathers, and the differences between them
