Chesed Hospital Kosher Guide 2014---Chesed has now published the 2014 edition of their comprehensive Hospital Kosher Guidebook for the NY-NJ area. It includes community liaisons, Bikur Cholim suites, chesed rooms, kosher food, nearby shuls, helpful organizations, and other important information for patients and their families. Ostomy Coverage---Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has signed into law the New York State Ostomy Supplies Bill, a legislation which mandates that all health insurers in the state provide coverage of ostomy supplies. The legislation states that "every policy which provides medical coverage that includes coverage for physician services in a physician's office and every policy which provides major medical or similar comprehensive-type coverage shall include coverage for equipment and supplies used for the treatment of ostomies." The coverage will be subject to annual deductibles and coinsurance.

Wheelchair Protest At The Met---There will be a wheelchair protest parade at The Metropolitan Opera House in NYC on the evening of October 20th in protest of the opening of the anti-semetic ‘Death Of Klinghoffer’ opera which glorifies the Palestinian Arab terrorists who murdered Leon Klinghoffer, a wheelchair-bound American Jew, on the hijacked ship Achille Lauro in 1985. Jewish Genetic Testing---The McGill University Health Center is now doing online screening for Jewish Genetic diseases. Those who complete the online screening and are identified at high risk will be sent an electronic requisition to undergo blood testing at Montreal General Hospital, reducing the usual long waiting time for testing.
