Medication Recall--Foreign particles have been found in a small number of batches of the VPRIV taken by many Goucher patients. The following is from the manufacturer:

As per SHIRE's notice regarding the recall for the specific batch which was marketed in the USA, Columbia and Mexico, we'd like to clarify the following points:

1.This is a single, voluntary recall by the company for one specific batch and upon further inspection there is no problem with using any of the other batches.

2.The FDA does not intend to take any further regulatory measures beyond what was already one by SHIRE.

3.There is no concern in using/continuing to use the company's products of the batches marketed in Israel.

4.The Israeli Ministry of Health is constantly reporting and updating Madison co.

5.There is no cessation of production or marketing in the company's two manufacturing sites based in the USA and in Germany.

6.Both sites are registered and approved for marketing in Israel.

7.Madison co. has enough stock to ensure normal supply of the product to all patients.

8.SHIRE has established a dedicated team to examine the event with the goal of drawing conclusions for the future and to ensure that this was a one-time, local failure.

9.SHIRE is committed to provide quality products and will continue to upgrade the quality and to update its customers, doctors and patients as required in any matters relevant to the product, as has been done until now.

10. We will be glad to be of assistance if any further clarification is desired.
