Benefits Consultations--Beginning January 7, 2014, Yad HaChazakah with begin to provide benefits counseling services for people with disabilities at its Midwood Brooklyn office through its collaboration with the Brooklyn Center for Independence of the Disabled. It will be staffed by a benefits adviser who has 15 years experience helping people with disabilities to secure the benefits to which they are entitled. She will at first come the first Tuesday of every month from 10 A.M. - 1 P.M. and she will increase the hours as demand expands. A housing specialist will also visit Yad HaChazakah as needed. Special Needs Babysitting CourseJCC Metrowest will be giving a 6-week course from January 5th-February 9th at JCC MetroWest, West Orange, New Jersey. Teens will be trained by a special needs professional through workshops, videos, and meetings. Students will be certified in CPR and First Aid, with additional topics including: disability awareness, rights and responsibilities, child development and behavioral challenges, communicating with the child with special needs, modifying games/activities, handling emergencies, and more.  A list of teens that have completed the course can then be shared with families in the community seeking childcare.  Contact Becca at 973-929-3129 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Behavioral IssuesFamily Resource Academy is offering a class starting in January for parents of children with intensive behavioral health needs. In partnership with professional child development specialists and veteran family members, the Family Resource Academy has designed a series of workshops which will begin in January.  You will have the opportunity to learn about topics such as:

  • Behavioral Toolbox
  • Medication Management
  • Emotional Baggage Getting in Your Way
  • Caring for Yourself as Caregiver
  • Substance Abuse

and MORE! *Workshops are FREE to all Baltimore COUNTY residents and anyone receiving services through Catholic Charities.
