Autism Study—The research team at the Seaver Autism Center at Mount Sinai is conducting a research study for children who might have an autism spectrum disorder or developmental delay. The goal of this study is to identify a screening tool that uses gene expression patterns to help predict an autism diagnosis. Participants will receive a diagnostic evaluation by trained clinicians. There are no treatments involved in this study.
Individuals may be eligible if they are between 1 ½ -4 years old and have a possible developmental disorder. For more information call 212-241-0961 or
Autism Study--Towson University’s Hussman Center for Adults with Autism is conducting a research study to explore the effect of active videogame systems on physical activity and enjoyment in young adults aged 18-25 on the Autism Spectrum. Participants will attend 8 sessions at the center, playing active videogames with and without a partner while wearing a heart rate monitor (chest strap) and accelerometer (waist band), as well as performing a balance and coordination test. Sessions will be videotaped. Compensation is $80 gift card for completing all 8 sessions. Contact Amanda Foran at
Neurophysiology Research--Helen Hayes Hospital is recruiting volunteers to participate in rehabilitation neurophysiology research studies. Participation in a study requires approximately three sessions per week for two to three months, followed by four to eight sessions over another two to three months. Each session will last approximately 90 minutes and participants will be paid $15 per session.
For additional information on neurophysiology research studies and how to join these studies, contact Lauren Verlizzo at
Down Syndrome Registry—The DS Connect Down Syndrome Registry is being launched by NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in an effort to connect individuals who have Down syndrome with researchers who are studying DS. This registry will allow family members to anonymously compare their health experiences with others. Families can also find out about research, and can chose to participate in research studies if they desire.
There is a particular need for older individuals with Down syndrome to join the registry, as people with DS are living longer than they ever have in the past, and information will help maintain health and quality of life.
