Free Kosher Chickens--As they did last year, the Monsey Kaporos Center will be donating freshly koshered chickens on Sunday, the day after Yom Kippur from 5-7 pm, at 88 Saddle River Rd. in Monsey. There will be a list of the Shochtim available motzei yom kippur. First come-first served-you can take as many as you’d like-just bear in mind that these chickens are more salty than the chicken you buy in a store so it needs no salt when cooing it. if you have any questions you can call (845) 425-9022.
Social Security Applications--People who would like to apply for Social Security disability benefits, but are unable to visit their local office in person, can now apply at www.socialsecurity.gov/disability. It can take three to five months to receive a determination from the Social Security Administration (SSA), depending on the nature of the disability, how quickly the applicant sends in supporting documents and whether a medical examination is required. SSA’s compassionate allowances initiative often speeds up the process in cases of very severe disabilities. Two hundred different types of disabilities qualify for this expedited decision, and the list continues to expand. Tutorial videos and webinars can be found at www.socialsecurity.gov/webinars
