Yom Kippur Respite—Menucha of Baltimore has informed us that they are offering 4 hours of caregiving assistance for special needs children on Yom Kippur. Child must be under age 21, be eligible for LISS funding, does NOT receive more than 2 hours of state or local homecare program, and be a Menucha member since before August 15, 2013. CORRECTION-- After School Program—Perachim in Brooklyn has begun an afterschool Medicaid Waiver program for verbal children diagnosed with impulsive behaviors and/or poor social skills who are diagnosed with PDD, Asperger’s, or developmental delays. The program uses the SBI (Social Behavioral Intelligence) Self Directed Method for achieving social and self-control skills. Mercaz He’anut--Mercaz He'anut is a multi professional-holistic center for children, adolescents and adults with special needs and their families. The center employs professional staff members (social worker, education experts, therapists and doctors) and serves as a one-stop address for all the needs of the families in all areas of life (education, health, welfare). Families receive guidance and support, and when necessary – mediation and linkage with various community factors. Mercaz He'anut assists in finding creative solutions in areas such as housing, welfare, employment and health for individuals with special needs and their families, and implementing these solutions together with the families.
