Summer vacation Safety—Summer is a time that many people take to the road to enjoy quality time with their families. If you or your loved one has a medical condition, it is important to be prepared for medical emergencies.
Whether you are going on a day trip or an extended vacation, make sure that you take along at the minimum a list of the medical conditions with a few words explaining each condition, medications and supplements with their dosages, contact information for all doctors used, copy of recent EKG (if heart condition), any allergies, insurance information, and emergency contacts. People with serious medical issues should wear personalized medical ID engraved jewelry to alert EMS to their condition. These simple steps have saved many lives!
Pack in extra doses of all medications. If you rely on any life-support machinery such as a feeding pump, vent, suction, etc, have a backup system in case of blackout. There are transformers which will change your car’s cigarette lighter into an outlet, available at automotive stores and department stores like Walmart or Target.
Program the local area Hatzolah number into your cell phone. And remember, due to legalities, Hatzolah may not be able to bypass the local area hospital to transport to the hospital where your specialists are.

Home Repairs for Seniors --Hamaspik in conjunction with The NYS Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC), is now administering the RESTORE Program in Kings County. The RESTORE Program is for senior (60+) low-income (Section 8 eligible - does not exceed 80 percent of the area median income) homeowners in need of emergency repairs (something which affects the health and safety of the homeowner, is considered any emergency repair) to their home. The home can be no more than a one-to-four unit dwelling, that is owned and occupied by the homeowner, and work undertaken cannot exceed $5,000 per building. Once a home is deemed appropriate to receive RESTORE funds, the Homeowner must sign an agreement which states that if he sells the building within 3 years, he must return the funds used to improve his property. This form will be filed with the county clerk. As there are very slots available, if you know of someone that is in need of this, please have them call Mordechai Holhendler at 718-431-8400 ext. 428,
