Grant Guidelines for Individuals:
- Grants are awarded to individuals from birth up to the age of 22 years.
- Grants are awarded to children who are legal U.S. citizens living in the US.
- If applying for private speech therapy, the therapy provider and therapist must be notified that the grant is being applied for.
- If applying for a grant to be used towards private speech therapy, the speech language pathologists must be licensed within the United States of America.
- Grants are awarded for future therapies and will not be available to reimburse individuals for previous expenditures.
- If the person nominating the applicant is not the parent or legal guardian, the parent or legal guardian must be notified by the person nominating the applicant.
- If the applicant has received a grant from SSIS, there is a one-year waiting period to reapply for a grant. This waiting period begins at the end of the existing contract.
- An applicant who has applied and been denied, may apply for a grant one time per calendar year unless they can provide proof that the need (financial, medical, developmental, etc.) has changed.
- If applying for a grant to be used toward an assistive technology device, a formal Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Evaluation from a qualified service provider must be included stating that different pieces of technology have been trialed and what you are requesting is the best fit for a means of communication.
