Bronchitis

An inflammation of the bronchi, the main airways in the lung.  Bronchitis can be acute (short lived) or chronic (long lasting and recurring). It can be caused either by virus or bacteria.  Symptoms include excessive coughing and sputum production which make breathing difficult.  It is usually treated with medication to relax and open the airways.  See chronic bronchitis.
