Diabulimia - Synopsis
A serious & life threatening condition where patients with Type 1 diabetes use insulin restriction as a form of quick weight loss. Symptoms are similar to those of other eating disorders, such as food & calorie obsession and change in eating habits, but also include uncontrolled blood sugars, increased urination, fruity breath, weight loss despite increased food intake, frequent ketones in the blood and urine, excessive thirst, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Lack of insulin compounded by eating disorder can cause severe dehydration, muscle loss, blindness, nerve damage, foot amputations, kidney damage, heart damage, steatopehepatitis, and death.
