Reye's Syndrome
An infection related disorder that affects the brain and liver. It usually 3-5 days following viral infection like flu or chicken pox, or during the recovery period. Exposure to salicylate containing drugs such as aspirin increases the risk of acquiring the disease. Symptoms begin with sudden and persistent nausea and vomiting, and causes complications affecting the liver, blood, and brain that can lead to seizures and coma and can progress rapidly, possibly leading to death. There is currently no cure, by treatment involves managing the symptoms in an intensive care unit.
