Neural Visual Impairment

 

                                                              

 

General term that encompasses blindness or impaired vision caused by any condition that affects the visual system from the optic nerve to the visual cortex of the brain.  The eyes themselves are normal..  The brain is unable to receive or interpret nerve signals from the eye.  It can be caused by injury, infection, oxygen deprivation, tumors, or drugs.  Treatment is if the underlying cause, if possible.
