Mumps

A viral infection usually occurring in children resulting in painful swelling of the parotid area (saliva glands) in the cheek.  Other symptoms include chills, fever, headache, loss of appetite, loss of energy, and in severe cases, menangitus, encephalitis, or orchitis.  Today, most cases are prevented by vaccination with the MMR vaccine.
