Kwashiorkor
A type of malnutrition caused by severe protein deficiency in the diet. Symptoms include indifference or apathy, swollen belly, change in hair and skin color, fatigue, irritability, and diarrhea. In severe cases, stunted growth, mental retardation, and physical disabilities may occur. In early stages of the disease, food should be introduced slowly. Carbohydrates are given first, followed by protein rich foods.
