Huntington's Disease (HD)
Huntington’s is a genetically determined, usually fatal disease. Initial symptoms include mood swings, depression, irritability, and an altered ability to make decisions or concentrate. Early symptoms can also include uncontrolled movement in the fingers, feet, face, or trunk. Eventually, coordination is impaired and difficulties with speaking or swallowing arise. Treatment is currently limited to symptomatic relief., including antipsychotic drugs and therapy. There is a one in two chance that a child of an HD parent will inherit the disorder.
