Fuch's Dystrophy

An inherited condition that affects the delicate inner layer (endothelium) of the cornea, which removes fluid from the cornea to maintain its clarity.  Patients lose these cells as the dystrophy progresses.  They do not grow back..  Excrescences, or abnormal outgrowths, form over the Decement’s membrane, which gradually becomes abnormally thick.  This results in corneal clouding, swelling, and eventually reduced vision.  This process can take 10-20 years.
