Fifth Disease

An acute, communicable viral disease.  Symptoms are fever and a rash.  Anemia may occur.  Adults may develop joint pain and swelling.  There is no effective treatment for the virus.  Patients who develop anemia may need blood transfusion and intravenous immunoglobulin G.
