Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)

A type of herpes virus that causes infectious mononucleosis and other disorders.  Symptoms include sore throat, fever, and swollen glands in the neck.  In severe cases, there is also spleen enlargement, which may possible rupture causing internal bleeding.  No specific treatment is currently available.
