Diverticulitis

An inflammatory disease affecting the colon or intestine where small pouches called diverticula which form the colon wall become inflamed.  Symptoms include lower left abdominal pain, fever, elevated white blood count, and sometimes dehydration.  Treatment is by antibiotics for mild cases, and surgery for more severe cases.
