In this age where medical information is so readily accessable by internet and so confusing to us laypeople, I found  it is helpful to get a grip at least on some of the basic medical terminology. I definitely feel this is important following my father's recent hospital stay. So below is a very partial list of some basic medical terms and their definition.

Artery   - the study  of paintings

Bacteria - the back door of a cafeteria

barium - what you do when a patient dies

bowel -  a letter such as a,e i o u

caesarian section - a neighborhood in Rome

cat scan - searching for your kitty

cauterise -  made eye contact with her

coma - a punctuation mark

D & C - where the president lives

dilate - to live longer

enema - the opposite of friend

fester  - quicker

fibula - a  small lie

G.I. Series - a soldier ballgame tournament

hangnail - coat hook

impotent - distinguished, well-known

labour pain - getting hurt at work

medical staff -  a doctor's cane

morbid - a higher offer

nitrates - cheaper than day rates

node -      was aware of

outpatient  - a patient that has fainted

recovery room -   the workroom of an  upholsterer

rectum  -  danmed near killed 'em

secretion -  hiding something

seizure - Roman emperor

tablet  -  a small table

terminal sickness - getting sick at the airport

tomour - more than one

urine  - opposite of "your out"

varicose  - very near

vein  -  conceited
