GPS Shoes

Easily track your loved ones!

GTX Corp and Aetrex Worldwide have teamed up to create a $299.00 pair of otherwise ordinary looking walking shoes that uses GPS to track wearers' whereabouts.  The footwear, and accompanying softwear, will issue live alerts when loved ones cross neighborhood lines.

How does it work?

A miniaturized GPS chip and cellular device is embedded in the shoe. The shoe then continuously tracks the location and movement history of its wearer, relaying the information to a monitoring center through cellular networks. Authorized parties are able to instantly log-on, or receive alerts, via a secure internet portal and pinpoint the current location of the targeted user on an interactive map. These shoes are more efficient than most other kinds of tracking devices such as bracelets or watches, because the wearer is not likely to wander off without their shoes.

Shoes are currently available in an adult sized sneaker type shoe called "The Ambulator". It comes in both men's and women's models, in a choice of black or white.  The company is working on creating technology to place the mechanism in smaller sized shoes.

The cost of the shoes is $299.99.  There is also a monthly fee for the GPS monitoring service.  There are two levels of service offered---location alerts every 30 minures for $34.99, or every ten minutes for $39.99.  Customers can also go onlune and create a virtual fence and get special alerts anytime the shoe wearer leaves that zone.

The shoe's battery needs to be recharged periodically, and a charger plugs into the back of the shoe.

Shoes are now available through the Aetrex e-commerce site and a select group of assisted living facilities. Aetrex also has a retail store in Engelwood, New Jersey.
