Skills-based Groups Forming---The Center For Applied Psychology in Monsey will be offering the following skills-based groups:

  • Parenting the Anxious Child---for parents of children with anxiety (4 sessions)
  • Stop Walking on Eggshells—dealing with Borderline Personality (8 sessions)
  • Banana Splits---skills and support groups for children ages 10-13 whose parents who are separated, divorcing, or divorced (8 sessions)
  • Social Skills---Separate sessions for boys & girls, English and Yiddish speaking groups (8-10 sessions)
  • DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)—Treatment for adults and adolescents with consistent emotion dysregulation. Separate groups for men, women, and adolescent females (27 sessions)
  • Postpartum Depressions & Anxiety (6 sessions)

Special Needs Babysitting Course---JCC Metrowest will be sponsoring a 5-week course where  teens will be trained by a special needs professional through workshops, videos, and meetings. Students will be certified in CPR and First Aid, with additional topics including: disability awareness, rights and responsibilities, child development and behavioral challenges, communicating with the child with special needs, modifying games/activities, handling emergencies, and more. A list of teens that have completed the course can then be shared with families in the community seeking childcare. Discharge Training---A law has been passed in New York State which requires hospitals to allow patients’ designated family member or unrelated caregiver to receive advice on medical care, transfers to other facilities, and medical needs upon discharge. This includes training in tasks such as changing bandages, administering medications, etc.

ISRAEL

Fire Emergency---Israel’s Fire Department has activated emergency numbers for the disabled including persons with a hearing impairment. One will be able to call for assistance via fax or SMS text message and within seconds the distress call will be routed to the closest fire station.
